Concrete Patio Installation in Orange County

Concrete is the most cost-efficient way to add usable outdoor square footage in Orange County – large dining areas, outdoor kitchens, barbecue pads, pool surrounds, and clean modern slabs where pavers would be overkill. Paired with a turf border or surround, a concrete patio gives you a year-round entertaining surface without the irrigation, mowing, or seasonal patching that natural lawn requires. OC’s low freeze-thaw cycle is one of the best concrete environments in the country – properly poured slabs here last 30 to 50 years.

Go Turf installs concrete patios alongside artificial turf as coordinated single-project scopes throughout Orange County. One contractor for both elements means the elevations, drainage, and edge transitions are designed together. Every project carries a 3-year labor warranty.

TREATMENTS

Concrete-to-Turf Edge Treatments

The interface between concrete and turf is what separates a clean install from a sloppy one. Three edge treatments work in OC, depending on the design aesthetic and the budget.

Edge Treatment

Visual Character

Best For

Concrete mow strip

Clean, slight reveal

Most common OC residential

Saw-cut edge

Minimal, flush

Contemporary aesthetic, premium budget

Aluminum edge restraint

Crisp linear line

Contemporary designs, curved transitions

TRUF TYPES

Concrete Finishes That Work in OC

Concrete isn’t one product – it’s a base material with a range of finishes that affect appearance, slip resistance, and cost. The four finishes below cover almost every residential project we install in OC.

Broom Finish

Textured surface created by dragging a broom across wet concrete. Non-slip, low-cost, and the most common residential finish. Suits traditional and ranch-style OC homes. No sealing required.

Stamped Concrete

Pattern pressed into wet concrete to mimic stone, brick, or tile. Achieves a premium look at a lower cost than actual stone. Popular for contemporary OC backyard designs. Requires annual resealing to maintain color and surface integrity.

Exposed Aggregate

Fine surface layer removed during curing to reveal the stone aggregate in the mix. Creates a textured, natural-looking surface that’s non-slip and visually distinct. Suits both contemporary and traditional aesthetics. Annual resealing protects the color.

Smooth Trowel Finish

Machine-troweled to a near-smooth surface. Best for covered areas or applications where furniture will sit on the concrete. Slip resistance is lower than broom or aggregate finishes, so we recommend sealing with a non-slip sealer for outdoor OC use.
DESIGN PATTERNS

Concrete and Turf Design Patterns

The most common OC concrete-and-turf configurations are below. Each uses concrete for the firm functional zones and turf for the open softscape areas, with a clean edge transition between the two.

Patio adjacent to lawn

Broom or stamped concrete patio with a turf lawn beside it. Most common OC configuration. Concrete handles the dining and entertaining zone; turf provides the open green space.

Concrete stepping path through turf

Stepping pads or a continuous path cutting through a turf field. Creates visual interest and traffic guidance without giving up open lawn space.

Pool deck with turf surround

Concrete apron around the pool with turf surrounding the deck. Concrete handles the wet/high-traffic zone; turf reduces heat radiating off a fully concreted surround.

Outdoor kitchen pad

Concrete slab for the kitchen and grill with turf or pavers for the surrounding dining area. Concrete handles the cooking-zone weight load; turf softens the look.
INSTALLATION PROCESS

Our Concrete Installation Process

1.

Free on-site consultation
A Go Turf representative measures, talks through finish options, and discusses drainage and slope requirements on-site.

2.

Excavation and base prep
Sub-grade is excavated, compacted, and prepared with a compacted aggregate sub-base where required by the soil and slab thickness.

3.

Forming and reinforcement
Forms are set to the patio dimensions with proper slope away from the house. Rebar or wire mesh reinforcement is installed to OC code.

4.

Pour and finish
Concrete is poured, screeded, and finished to your chosen surface – broom, stamped, exposed aggregate, or smooth trowel. Control joints are cut at proper intervals.

5.

Cure and seal
Concrete cures over 7 to 14 days. Stamped and aggregate finishes are sealed once cured. Broom finish requires no sealing.

6.

Turf integration and walk-through
If the project includes turf, it’s installed at the patio’s edge with the chosen edge treatment. The owner walks the completed install before final invoicing.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

Can Artificial Turf Be Installed Next to a Concrete Patio?

Yes – this is one of the most common OC backyard configurations we install. The concrete-to-turf interface is handled with a clean edge treatment (mow strip, saw cut, or aluminum edging) that creates a permanent, visually clean separation between the two surfaces.

What Concrete Finish Pairs Best with Artificial Grass?

Broom finish and exposed aggregate pair best with artificial grass in most OC backyard contexts. Their natural texture complements the turf surface without competing visually. Stamped concrete in stone patterns also works well when the design calls for a more elevated aesthetic.

How Long Does a Concrete Patio Last in OC's Climate?

Properly installed concrete patios in OC last 30 to 50 years with minimal maintenance. SoCal’s low freeze-thaw cycle frequency – the primary cause of concrete degradation in colder climates – makes OC one of the best environments in the country for concrete longevity.

How Much Does a Concrete Patio Cost in Orange County?

Broom-finish concrete patios range from $2,800 for a small patio to $13,000 for a larger mid-size project. Stamped and exposed aggregate finishes add $2 to $6 per square foot. Full concrete-and-turf backyard projects range from $12,000 to $40,000 depending on scope.

Do You Install Concrete and Turf in the Same Project?

Yes. Concrete and turf installs are quoted as a single project scope with one timeline and one crew. Doing both under one contractor means the elevations, drainage paths, and edge treatments are designed together – no step-down between the patio and the lawn, no low spots where water pools.

Does Concrete Need to Be Sealed in OC?

Broom-finish concrete requires no sealing. Stamped concrete and exposed aggregate finishes are sealed at install and should be resealed every 2 to 4 years to maintain color and surface integrity. Smooth trowel finishes used outdoors should be sealed with a non-slip sealer.
